Saturday Workshops

  • Shimmies & Layering (10am-12pm):  An exhilarating and challenging workshop, designed to be accessible to all levels, but to be indispensable to the intermediate and advanced student.  This workshop, hailed for its blood pumping drills and mind-bending layering, will lead the students through a step by step approach to 4/4 shimmies, the freeze, and the techniques of layering shimmies and isolation.
  • Hip Pow Bang! (12:30pm-2:30pm):  Get more “bang” out of every move!  This class focuses on developing clean technique and bringing articulation, fluidity and grace to your every movement.  Keep your audience’s attention with sharp hits, strong form, beautiful poses, and distinctive combos; explore that extra edge that brings magic to your dance!

Saturday Evening Performance

  • Showcasing a selection of the most exciting and innovative belly dancers in the Pacific Northwest, Amber Charms displays traditional and contemporary interpretations of this ancient art form.  Featuring classic Oriental Dance, improvised American Tribal Style, and Belly Dance Fusion, each distinctive style exemplifies the evolution and ongoing transformation of this vibrant art form.  Performers include:  Mira Betz, Gypsy Fire Belly Dance, Znama Dance Company, Ruby Beh, Dezadera, Nagamani, Harmony Belly Dance and Scarlet Thistle Belly Dance.  Held at the Columbia Center for the Arts - doors open at 6:30pm, show at 7:00pm.  Tickets:  $20 in advance/$25 at the door.  Tickets available below or here.

Sunday Workshops

  • Drills & Strengthening (1pm-2pm):  Designed for belly dancers of all styles and backgrounds with a desire for perfection, strength and control, this class leads dancers through a series of drills and exercises to enhance the body-mind coordination while developing the muscle groups essential to this dance.  This is a class to remember and use in your personal practice and classes, even include in your work-out.

  • Technique for the Versatile Dancer (2pm-4pm):  Mira Betz is known for crossing the defining boundaries of dance, offering unique insight into all belly dance styles.  This workshop is designed for belly dancers of all genres that are looking to develop their performance skills and clean-up and strengthen their technique.  It will include multi-level drills, exercises on smoothing transitions, creating ease in your dance without sacrificing technique, and tips on inspired audience interaction.
